Modest Behaviour

Crisp morning air travels through the sea of white as it flows faultlessly as you see them make their way to the entry doors. Sunday mornings have never been quite the same for the American streets of inner cities and the rural enclaves of Black America. The covering of the MGT GCC in the class of The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad is the most distinguishable article of clothing known worldwide. We in this class have submitted ourselves to strive to live a clean life of righteous and decorous conduct. But a garment of covering alone does not a modest woman make nor man for that matter. There is more to reflecting a woman of God than just the covering of one’s adornments.

Since returning to the workforce in various industries of hospitality, I have become ever more cognizant of how I carry myself when out of my home. The quick trip to the grocery store and running various errands leaves little time for getting comfortable. Being in an environment for extended periods of time which opposes what you are striving to submit to of righteousness is a trial. I found myself becoming more “relaxed” in my decorum and how I was representing my Islam. It is indeed a gift and an ever-present task of being a proper representation of the Teachings of The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad to people that may have no previous interactions with The Nation of Islam. The gift of not having to combat with covering myself as a woman of Allah was only the first battle won. Now to conduct my behaviour as such in a contrary world is a new war where some battles have been loss.

II Peter 2:22 states, " But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is returned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire." I believe it is to say, once Allah has brought you into the beauty and light of sure truth it is incumbent upon us to be watchers over ourselves. We can not turn back to the old environments in which were partook believing that even with righteousness in our hearts we won't fall victim to the environment of decadence. We must guard our minds against low frequencies by not intaking such madness through "entertainment", within and outside of our homes.  

I believe it is in the invaluable lecture series “How to Give Birth to a God,” that the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan mentions that a long dress doesn’t make you a saint or non-sinner. It may just take a little longer for you to commit your indiscretions. Indeed, covering does not make you a righteous person but it is the mind and the thought therein that dictates your behaviour, which is what makes the measure of right apparent. Putting on the whole armor of Allah in this world is paramount to being a witness bearer of His Majesty and Glory. Proverbs 23:7 gives great guidance to this very thought, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.”
